The 2017 giving window may be closing, but there is still a way to increase your revenue, so don’t miss out!

Corporate matching gifts are an easy way for organizations to increase revenue, especially during peak giving times like year-end giving.  Many companies match contributions made by their employees, and some will even double or triple the amount of the donation!  

According to Double the Donation, only about 1 in 10 eligible donors match their donations.  Every year, about $6 to $10 billion of matched donations are left unclaimed. Since many companies may match up to $10,000 for every donation, the revenue adds up quickly.

As you work on acknowledgment plans, make sure your organization has a plan to promote corporate matching gifts with your recent donors. Many donors are unaware if their company will match donations, so make sure to not only promote corporate matching gifts but also to provide donors with the tools to identify if their company matches gifts and easily submit the forms. There are a variety of website plug-ins and websites available to you to make the process easier.

The year-end acknowledgment process is a great way to promote corporate matching gifts. Be sure to include this information in your follow-up email series or include a simple buckslip with your mailed acknowledgment letters.

Also, make sure to mention it during your thank-you calls with your mid-level and major donors. Since many companies will match up to $10,000, it is a great way to stretch those larger gifts even further. In my experience, since the mid-level and major donors are committed to your organization, they are very excited to learn about other ways they can make even more of a difference.
